The church was first built in 1764, however the congregation had been in existence since 1745. The congregation now (2020) meets in St Anne's Episcopal Church nearby.

The church had been the oldest existing Methodist church in Scotland.

The East Lothian Courier reported in July 2020 that a developer wished to convert the building into a "venue for weddings, functions and community use".
