This database has been compiled from the original gazetteer  specifically as a finding aid to the parish maps extracted from Historic Parishes of England and Wales: an Electronic Map of Boundaries before 1850 with a Gazetteer and Metadata [computer file]. (Kain, R.J.P., Oliver, R.R.).  

The principal entries in each parish section for my purposes are numbered 2 and 5, i.e  the parish number on the actual maps and the parish name.
For example, 56/21 is parish number 21, Old Radnor

Other entries in the gazetteer have been discarded apart from these below;

  • 3 PLA = the name of the district in its modern form
  • 6 APL= alternative place name
  • 8 NGL= National Grid centroid reference
  • 10 CEN=1851 census parish number
  • 12 REF=Archival references (ignore)
